It's not about fairs. It's not about fundraising. It's about taking a collection of families who happen to attend the same school and gradually helping them become a community.
Working Together for Every Child
One of the things that makes Grafton Primary School such a special community is the partnership between our families and our staff.
Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) plays an important role in bringing that partnership to life. Through fundraising, volunteering and community events, the PTA helps create memorable experiences for our children while strengthening the connections that make our school such a welcoming place to belong.
For many parents, becoming involved in the PTA is also the beginning of their own Grafton journey. It is an opportunity to meet other families, contribute to school life and become part of a community that extends well beyond the school gates.
More Than Fundraising
The PTA certainly raises valuable funds for the school, but its impact goes far beyond that.
It brings families together, helps parents get to know one another, supports staff and creates opportunities for children to enjoy experiences that enrich their time at Grafton.
The money raised helps provide additional resources, equipment and experiences that enhance children's learning and wellbeing throughout the school. Most importantly, it helps create the sense of community that sits at the heart of Grafton.
A Community Effort
There are countless ways to become involved, whatever your interests, skills or the amount of time you have available.
You might enjoy:
- helping at a school fair or tuck shop
- becoming a class representative
- baking or cooking for an event
- helping to organise activities
- supporting grant applications
- sharing professional skills or expertise
- making a one-off or regular donation
Whether you can spare a couple of hours a year – 2 hours a year is enough to help run a tuck shop - or would like to become more involved, every contribution is valued and appreciated.
Every family has something valuable to contribute. Whether that's practical help, creative ideas, professional expertise or simply enthusiasm, we believe everyone can play a part in making our school community even stronger.
A PTA That Reflects Our Community
We want our PTA to be representative of our school community.
There is no "typical" PTA volunteer. Parents and carers from all backgrounds, professions and experiences bring something different and we welcome everyone who would like to become involved.
We are always keen to hear new ideas, celebrate the diversity of our community and create events that bring families together.
Events That Bring Us Together
Throughout the year, the PTA organises a growing calendar of events, including:
- Summer Fair
- Winter Fair
- Run Grafton Run
- School Disco
- Half-termly Tuck Shops
These events provide opportunities for children to make memories, parents to spend time together and our whole community to celebrate life at Grafton.
Every Parent Has a Voice
The PTA provides an opportunity for parents and carers to become more involved in school life. It offers a chance to share ideas, support projects and work alongside staff to make Grafton an even better place for every child.
We value the perspectives of our families and believe that the strongest school communities are built through collaboration, openness and mutual respect.
The Difference You Have Made
Every pound raised by the PTA goes back into enriching the children's experience at Grafton.
When my daughter first started at Grafton, there was no playground equipment — just an empty expanse of concrete. Watching the children now climbing, balancing, negotiating and playing together on the new structure is a real joy.

Many of our volunteers started by helping at just one event. Along the way they've built friendships, discovered new skills and become part of the wider Grafton community.
