At Grafton Primary School, we understand that families place a great deal of trust in us. Alongside caring for your child's learning, wellbeing and safety, we are committed to caring for their personal information with the same professionalism and respect.

We collect and use information about children and their families so that we can provide the very best education and support. This includes helping us to safeguard pupils, monitor attendance, communicate with parents and carers, meet our legal responsibilities and ensure that every child receives the care and opportunities they need to flourish.

Our Commitment

We are committed to protecting personal information in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

This means we will:

• collect and use personal information only where there is a lawful reason to do so
• keep information accurate, secure and confidential
• be open and transparent about how information is used
• retain information only for as long as it is needed, in line with our retention schedules
• share information only where it is required by law or necessary to support your child's education, wellbeing or safety

Where appropriate, we work with trusted organisations such as the local authority and carefully selected service providers. Whenever information is shared, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect personal data.

Your Rights

You have the right to understand how your personal information is used and, in many circumstances, to request access to the information we hold about you or your child.

If you have any questions about how we process personal information, or if you would like to make a data access request, please contact the school office. We will always be happy to help or direct you to the appropriate member of staff.

If, after contacting the school, you believe that your data protection rights have not been respected, you also have the right to raise your concerns with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
