Technology is woven into almost every aspect of modern life. At Grafton Primary School, we want children to do more than simply use technology – we want them to understand it, question it, create with it and use it with confidence.
Computing gives children the opportunity to become curious problem-solvers, thoughtful digital citizens and creative thinkers. Whether they are writing their first line of code, designing an animation or learning how to stay safe online, every lesson encourages children to think independently, explore new ideas and believe in their own ability.
Every Child Can Be a Creator
We want our children to see technology as a tool for creativity, not simply entertainment.
Through our Computing curriculum, children learn how computers work, how to solve problems through coding and programming, and how digital technology can be used to communicate ideas, tell stories and create meaningful projects.
By understanding the technology they use every day, children become active creators rather than passive consumers.
Learning for the Future
The digital world is constantly evolving, and we believe children should feel confident navigating it.
Our bespoke curriculum, developed by Islington Council and based on the National Centre for Computing Education framework, helps children build secure foundations in three key areas:
- Computer Science – understanding how computers work through coding, algorithms and programming.
- Information Technology – using technology creatively and purposefully to organise, present and communicate information.
- Digital Literacy – learning to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.
These skills prepare children not only for the next stage of their education, but for life in an increasingly connected world.
Computing Across the Curriculum
Computing doesn't happen in isolation.
Children use technology to enhance learning across the curriculum, whether researching historical events, presenting scientific findings, creating digital artwork or developing multimedia presentations. By making meaningful connections between subjects, children see technology as a powerful tool for learning, creativity and collaboration.
Staying Safe Online
Helping children stay safe online is one of the most important aspects of our Computing curriculum.
Children learn how to protect their personal information, communicate respectfully, recognise potential risks and make sensible, informed choices in the digital world. We encourage them to ask questions, think critically and always speak to a trusted adult if something online doesn't feel right.
By developing confidence alongside good judgement, we help children become responsible digital citizens who understand that kindness and respect matter just as much online as they do face to face.
